Matthew experienced homelessness while attending college and joined Champions Empowering Champions as a student member in the Summer of 2020. Matthew earned his Bachelor of Social Work from FAU in 2021 and his Master of Social Work in 2022. He will have a Master of Nonprofit Management in May 2024 and will start the Ph.D. in Public Administration program that Summer. After graduating with his MSW, Matthew stayed with Champions as a volunteer mentor and was invited to join the board in August 2023. Matthew works as a Director at Broward House, a nonprofit in Fort Lauderdale that provides services to people living with HIV/AIDS, including housing, case management, mental and behavioral health counseling, and treatment for substance use disorder. This work is dear to Matthew because he is an alum of several Broward House programs and lived in their transitional housing while pursuing his bachelor’s degree. However, Champions Empowering Champions is especially dear to Matthew because he feels that he would never have graduated college nor pursued any professional degrees without the love and acceptance he found in Champions. Matthew is incredibly proud to be on the Champions Board and grateful to have the opportunity to help other students with similar lived experiences.
