Faith Fusillo Becomes First Student Champion to Celebrate Graduation
Saturday, May 9, was a red-letter day for Faith Fusillo and the entire Champions organization as she became the first Student Champion to have a graduation celebration held in her honor. Despite the fact that the university’s spring commencement ceremony had to be postponed because of COVID-19, Faith’s celebration included all the usual pomp and circumstance, thanks to a multi-screen Zoom broadcast.
Participants included FAU Provost Brett Danilowicz, Champions Executive Director Kim Dunn and Champions Board Members Jeff Gordon, Mike Dansky, Dennis Crudele, Maurice Plough, Joe Murray and Jasmine Moore. Jeff presented Faith with a Champions stole and cord, special honors insignia that she helped design.
A founding member of Champions Empowering Champions, Faith played a key role in establishing the organization by serving as a mentor, role model and student voice. She said, “I am very glad that I was able to celebrate my graduation with my close family and friends. I am thankful to be a part of Champions Empowering Champions and everything it has taught me. I am grateful for my time spent at Florida Atlantic University and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!”
With family and close friends looking on, Faith was congratulated on completing all requirements for her bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in writing and rhetoric. She plans to continue her academic career in the fall at Florida International University in the Health Services Administration master’s degree program.
Among the highlights of the ceremony was a slide show of photographs of Faith through the years, accompanied by Justin Bieber’s “Confirmation.”
As Faith moves on to the next chapter in her journey, she takes with her the gratitude and admiration of all her fellow Champions. Congratulations, Faith, and come back to see us! You will always be a member of the FAU family!
